Whiplash treatment in Houston, TX

Whiplash Treatment Near Me in Houston, TX. Chiropractor For Whiplash Pain Relief.

Whiplash is a term used to describe a type of injury that occurs when the neck is abruptly forced to move back and forth. It is a common injury in car accidents but also in falls, sports injuries, and other types of sudden trauma. The rapid movement of the neck can cause damage to the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the neck, leading to pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion. In severe cases, whiplash can also result in headaches, dizziness, and other symptoms.

Whiplash is caused by a number of factors, including the speed and angle of the impact, the position of the head and neck at the time of the injury, and the age and physical condition of the individual. The most common cause of whiplash is a rear-end car collision, but it can also occur in other types of accidents, such as falls from heights, sports injuries, and physical altercations.

Chiropractic care is an effective treatment for whiplash. A chiropractor will typically perform a thorough examination to assess the extent of the injury and develop a customized treatment plan. This may include manual adjustments to the neck and spine to help restore proper alignment, soft tissue therapy to relieve muscle tension and pain, and exercises to improve range of motion and strength. A chiropractor may also use other treatments, such as heat and cold therapy, massage, and electrical stimulation to help alleviate symptoms.

With early and proper treatment, it is possible to alleviate the symptoms of whiplash and restore normal function to the neck. Chiropractic care can be a valuable resource for those who have experienced whiplash, offering a safe, effective, and non-invasive approach to treatment. If you or someone you know has experienced whiplash, it is crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible to prevent further injury and to ensure the best possible outcome.

How We Treat Whiplash In Houston, tx

Comprehensive Consultation and Exam

A comprehensive consultation and exam for whiplash are essential in determining the extent of the injury and the best course of treatment. During the consultation, we would take a thorough medical history, asking questions about the cause of the injury and the symptoms the patient is experiencing. This information is crucial in developing an individualized treatment plan.

The physical examination would include a thorough assessment of the patient's neck and back and any other areas the injury may have impacted. This may include range of motion, nerve function, and muscle strength tests. In some cases, we may also perform X-rays or other imaging studies to help visualize the extent of the injury and identify any underlying conditions.

The goal of the consultation and exam is to diagnose the specific cause of the patient's symptoms and develop a customized treatment plan that addresses their individual needs. This may include chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises, and other complementary therapies, such as massage or acupuncture. By working with the patient to address the root cause of their pain, we can help them achieve optimal health and reduce the risk of future injury.

Specific Chiropractic Care in Houston, TX

As a chiropractor, we understand that whiplash is a common injury resulting from a sudden, forceful neck movement. This type of injury can cause various symptoms, including neck pain, headaches, dizziness, and even cognitive difficulties. The goal of chiropractic care for a whiplash injury is to relieve pain, restore normal range of motion, and improve overall function.

Specific chiropractic care for a whiplash injury may include spinal adjustments, also known as manipulations, to help realign the vertebrae and relieve pressure on the nerves. These adjustments are gentle and tailored to meet each patient's specific needs. In addition to adjustments, we may also recommend physical therapy exercises and other complementary therapies, such as massage or acupuncture, to help reduce pain and improve mobility.

It is important to note that every case of whiplash is unique, and the course of chiropractic care will vary depending on the severity of the injury and the specific symptoms the patient is experiencing. However, my goal as a chiropractor is always to provide safe, effective, and individualized care to help each patient achieve optimal health and wellness.

manual Therapy and Soft Tissue Work

Manual therapy and soft tissue work are commonly used to help treat a whiplash injury, as they can help relieve pain, improve range of motion, and promote healing. Manual therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissue, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments, to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and relieve tension. Soft tissue work is a similar technique involving hands-on pressure and stretching to improve flexibility and reduce pain.

In the case of a whiplash injury, manual therapy and soft tissue work can help alleviate pain and reduce inflammation by promoting blood flow and releasing tightness in the neck and upper back muscles. Improving circulation and reducing muscle tension can help speed up the healing process and improve the patient's range of motion. Manual therapy can also help alleviate the stress and anxiety that often accompany a whiplash injury, promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being.

It is important to note that manual therapy and soft tissue work should be performed by a chiropractor or licensed therapist with experience working with whiplash injuries. The chiropractor will work with the patient to develop a customized treatment plan that addresses their specific needs and goals. With the right combination of techniques, manual therapy and soft tissue work can effectively complement other forms of treatment, such as chiropractic care.

PEMF THERAPY

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy is an advanced medical technology that can help treat various conditions, including whiplash injuries. Whiplash is a common injury when the neck rapidly jerks forward and backward, causing damage to the muscles, ligaments, and tendons. This type of injury can be very painful, leading to long-term discomfort and reduced mobility.

PEMF therapy uses pulsed electromagnetic fields to pass through the body's tissues, stimulating cellular activity and reducing inflammation. This helps relieve pain, improve range of motion, and speed up healing. The therapy is non-invasive, and patients typically experience little to no discomfort during the procedure — most feel only a gentle pulsing sensation.

One of the major benefits of PEMF therapy is its ability to reach deep into the tissue without causing harm to the surrounding structures, since electromagnetic fields pass through skin, muscle, and bone alike. This makes it a useful option for conditions like whiplash, where the injury is deep within the neck and other traditional treatments may not be effective. The therapy is also highly customizable, allowing practitioners to adjust the frequency, intensity, and duration of the treatment to meet the needs of each individual patient.

HEIT THERAPY

HEIT (High Energy Inductive Therapy) is one of the more powerful tools we use for whiplash recovery. When a rear-end collision snaps the neck forward and back, the damage isn't limited to what you can feel on the surface. Deep cervical stabilizers, facet joints, and the soft tissue around them all take the hit, and that deeper layer is exactly where most treatment struggles to reach.

HEIT works on the same electromagnetic principle as PEMF, but at a much higher energy output. That extra power drives a stronger stimulus into the deeper structures of the neck and upper back, triggering muscle contraction and relaxation cycles that most patients can actually feel working. It's non-invasive, there's no heat, and there's no downtime afterward.

For whiplash specifically, that depth matters. Guarded, spasming muscles in the cervical spine make it hard to restore normal motion, and until that tension lets go, adjustments don't hold as well. HEIT helps calm that protective guarding so the rest of the care plan has something to build on. We adjust intensity and treatment time based on how acute the injury is, so a patient two weeks out from an accident on 610 gets a very different setting than someone six months into a stubborn recovery.

Therapeutic Exercise

The neck muscles, ligaments, and tendons are often damaged during a whiplash injury, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.  Therapeutic exercise can help improve these symptoms by strengthening the neck muscles and increasing flexibility in the affected area.

The exercises prescribed by a therapist will vary depending on the patient's specific needs. Some common exercises for whiplash may include neck strengthening exercises, stretches for the neck and upper back, and activities to improve range of motion. These exercises are designed to be performed slowly and with control, avoiding sudden movements that could worsen the injury.

I recently started seeing Dr Hurtig at CORE Chiropractic. This place is amazing. From the first phone call to my continued visits, I find EVERYONE to be professional and friendly. At first, I was apprehensive about going to any chiropractor, but after I saw my x-rays and the pain that I was in, I knew that I needed help… I like how Dr Hurtig sat down with me and went over the x-rays, explaining everything in great detail and then sharing his plan of attack to address my issues… All I can say is kudos to this wonderful organization and with sincere THANKS

Dr Cordova and the entire staff is extremely professional and on a scale from one to 10. I give them a 12. My back looked like San Francisco’s Lombard Street due to some recent injuries. We have maximum progress in the appropriate amount of time and I’m no longer walking on a cane. Thank you, Dr and thank you all

I had not been able to walk in weeks. I could not stand up for more than a few moments at a time. I could only lay down in a few positions. Soaking in hot water right after I woke up and before bed became a normal of my routine. I went to see another chiropractor on two separate occasions to no avail. And on a lovely Thursday I decided to go to CORE and my how has life been amazing. Later that day as I lay in bed doing some thinking about my visit with the PM&R doctor and as I went to get out of bed, I went to slide out of the bed as I had to do for weeks, I felt nothing. So I stood up, took a few steps, and nothing. Doing back flips inside and not wanting to jinx myself, I walked into my bathroom and as I approached the mirror, I glanced as if I was looking around the corner at a stranger engaged in something that doesn’t have anything to do with me. Once I made it to the mirror, I realized that the pain was gone. Dr. Nguyen, I Thank You.

Common Causes of Whiplash in Houston, TX

Concussion

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury when the brain is shaken or jolted inside the skull causing various symptoms, including headache, nausea, dizziness, confusion, and memory loss. A blow to the head often causes concussions, but they can also occur when the head and neck are rapidly accelerated or decelerated, such as in a car accident.

In the context of a whiplash injury, a concussion may occur if the head is jerked forward and backward with enough force to cause damage to the brain. Concussions can range from mild to severe, and they can significantly impact a person's quality of life.  Early treatment is critical to keep the condition from worsening and becoming more difficult to treat.

Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common symptom of a whiplash injury. The pain associated with whiplash can range from mild to severe and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and fatigue. The severity of the pain may not always correlate with the severity of the injury, and some people may experience long-term neck pain even after the initial injury has healed.  Treatment for neck pain resulting from a whiplash injury may include chiropractic care and therapeutic exercise.

Headaches

A whiplash headache is often a dull, aching pain at the base of the skull or in the temples. The pain may be worse in the morning and accompanied by neck pain and stiffness. Sometimes, headaches may persist for weeks or even months after the initial injury.

Shoulder Pain

Whiplash can cause pain in the shoulder because of the way it affects the neck and upper body. When the neck is rapidly jerked forward and backward during a whiplash injury, the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the neck and shoulder can become damaged. This can result in pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility in the affected area.

Shoulder pain is a common whiplash symptom because a network of muscles, tendons, and ligaments connects the neck and shoulder. The rapid movement of the neck during a whiplash injury can cause these tissues to become strained or torn, leading to pain and discomfort in the shoulder.

Back Pain

Whiplash can cause back pain because it affects the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the neck, back, and torso. When the neck is rapidly jerked forward and backward during a whiplash injury, these tissues can become strained or torn, leading to pain and discomfort in the back.

Chiropractic care can be an effective treatment for back pain caused by whiplash. Chiropractors specialize in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions, including back pain. They may use spinal manipulation, massage, and stretching techniques to help reduce pain and improve mobility.

Chiropractic care can be especially beneficial for those with whiplash-related back pain because it is a non-invasive and drug-free approach to treatment. By working with a chiropractor, you can develop a customized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and helps you fully recover.

Frequently Asked Questions ABOUT WHIPLASH

Should I see a chiropractor after whiplash?

If your neck stiffened up in the days after a collision, yes. We x-ray before touching you so we can see whether the crash changed your cervical curve or alignment, then treat what the images actually show. Waiting it out works for some people. For the rest it just delays the start.

Why do whiplash symptoms show up days after the accident?

Adrenaline masks a lot in the first 24 to 48 hours. Soft tissue inflammation also peaks later, not immediately. That's why someone can walk away from a rear-end collision feeling fine and wake up two days later unable to turn their head. Delayed onset is normal, not a sign you're imagining it.

Can whiplash cause headaches?

Very often, and they usually start at the base of the skull. The upper cervical joints take a lot of the force in a rear-end collision, and those joints refer pain up over the scalp and behind the eye. If your headaches started after the crash, the neck is the first place we look.

Do I need an x-ray after a car accident?

We take them on every accident case before any adjustment. Low-speed crashes still change cervical curve and alignment, and we can't assess that by feel. The images also document what your neck looked like close to the date of injury, which matters if there's a claim.

Can you get whiplash from a low-speed accident?

Yes. Damage to your bumper and damage to your neck aren't the same measurement. Your head weighs about twelve pounds and moves faster than your torso in a rear-end hit regardless of how the car looks. We see real injuries from parking lot speed collisions.

Will my auto insurance cover chiropractic care after an accident?

Usually, and in Texas we can also treat on a letter of protection so you don't pay anything up front. Under an LOP, your care is billed against your settlement. We'll walk you through which applies to your case at the first visit.

Should I see a chiropractor or a doctor after a car accident?

If there's a head injury, loss of consciousness, numbness, weakness, or severe pain, go to the ER first. For neck and back pain that isn't emergent, we're a reasonable first stop because we image before we treat and refer out when the findings call for it.

What does whiplash treatment involve at CORE?

We start with digital x-rays and an exam, then build a plan around what we find. Depending on the case that can include adjustments, spinal decompression, PEMF, and HEIT. We also document everything thoroughly, which matters if your case involves an attorney.
